una mattina d’inverno al mercato / at the farmers’ market on a winter morning

Last Sunday morning, I went to the Temescal farmers’ market in Oakland, and, as usual, I had a nice time walking around, chatting with various farmers and filling my bag with goodies.

I loved the festive atmosphere of the display. The sun was shining and the temperature very nice, so in fact, no winter accessories were necessary.

On a colorful note, windy conditions last Saturday gave us this splendid sunset. We could see the Farallon Islands beyond the Golden Gate Bridge, a measure of the clearness of the sky. (For people not familiar with the Bay Area, the islands in front of the bridge is Alcatraz.)

BlackWhiteWednesdayFinalOriginalLogoThis is my submission to week #22 edition of Black and White Wednesday – A Culinary Photography Event created by Susan of The Well-Seasoned Cook. Savoring the weekly gallery is highly recommended: it’s a very special mid-week treat.

The food photos were shot in color and then converted to light sepia.

This post contains the gallery of photos submitted to the event.

  1. Simona, ho 4 butternut squash in my house, don’t know what to do with them yet. Maybe I will roast them and freeze the pulp?
The sunset is amazing, you were at the right place at the right time.

Ciao Alicia. Let us see if you do it πŸ˜‰
Ciao Laura. That’s one way, but you can also cut it up and roast it as a side dish. Or make a galette (assuming you have a recipe for GF dough). I actually have a number of butternut squashes myself and I will need to use them fairly soon.
Ciao Francesca. Quello dei rapporti interpersonali e’ certo uno dei motivi che rende interessante e arricchente la visita al mercato dei produttori. E anche il trovare e provare prodotti diversi. Il ponte e’ sempre contento di ricevere visite πŸ˜‰
Ciao Ruhama. The next time I go to that market I’ll let them know that their idea was a big hit. And I agree with you: the font they use for their signage is quite nice. They have a rather large space and a great variety of produce.

  4. I am in love with those cute little butternut squashes. I broke my favourite knife yesterday trying to cut one in half πŸ™ Beautiful pictures!

  5. Ciao Ivy and thanks for the kind words. I read about the knife mishap. I also had a squash-cutting adventure a few years back: the blade flew off. Unforgettable.
