Sometimes, as I go about doing things in the kitchen, I stop my hands and take a moment to admire the combination of shapes and colors my eyes see, to inhale more deeply the smell that comes from the food I am touching, to follow the faint echo of the noise I am no longer making. Those are preciously simple moments and while the camera can capture only a portion of the experience, I often like to reach for it and fix the image on its memory card.
The other day, while I was chopping toasted hazelnuts in a mortar, I stopped with the pestle in midair and took some photos. I like that the image is dynamic in its stillness.
I can still smell the aroma freeds by chopping the nuts.
This is my contribution to edition #119 of Black and White Wednesday – A Culinary Photography Event created by Susan of The Well-Seasoned Cook, now organized by Cinzia of Cindystar, and hosted this week by Cinzia herself.
The photo was shot in color and then converted to black and white (Lightroom preset B&W Look 4).
