beauties in a box at the farmers' market

My love story with the juicy morsels enveloped in a soft-spiked skin is not new. I met this fruit for the first time two years ago during a visit to the Big Island and talked about it in a post about various fruits and a post about skin and pulp. I met it again last week in the same place.

Removing the bright red color gives more prominence to the intriguing shape.

  1. I’ve seen these in Asian markets, and they are indeed striking fruits—though I have never bought them, not knowing what to do with them or how to eat them. Or even the name, so I could look it up! Now I know, thanks! I’ll definitely try them next time I see them.

  2. Ciao Frank. Give them a try. They are nice. If you do, let me know if you find out where they come from.
    Thank you, Katie.
Ciao Paz. They are visually striking. And a pleasure to eat.

  3. I love both your images-the overall shot of the rambutan and the close up as it tells the whole story of what the plant looks like. Thanks for contributing to BWW #111
