The photo started with a wish to capture the deep red cherry tomatoes. When I framed them, I observed how nicely the juxtaposition of cauliflowers and broccoli worked. Finally, I realized that the colors were those of the Italian flag, which is called tricolore.
This is my submission to week #11 edition of Black and White Wednesday – A Culinary Photography Event created by Susan of The Well-Seasoned Cook. Savoring the weekly gallery is highly recommended: it's a very special mid-week treat.
The photo was shot in color (at the Temescal Farmers' Market in Oakland, CA) and then converted to black and white.
This post contains the gallery of photos submitted to the event.
What a wonderful observation that the colors formed the tricolore. 😉 This makes a very nice BW photo.
tricolore vegetariano ^ ___ ^
The colors and textures make a wonderful black and white image. The cauliflower really pops and the little cherry tomatoes look beautiful in the foreground.
Thanks, Paz. I am glad you like the image.
Sono e saro’ sempre italiana 😉
Ciao Lynne. I was pleasantly surprised how well the photo worked in black and white, seeing how the reason for taking it was really color.
Simona, I never thought that a Cauliflower could look so beautiful!!
Viva l’Italia!

Ciao Brii. I have come to love cauliflower in all its incarnations. It is, indeed, a beautiful vegetable 🙂
Great capture, Simona, of all those great textures and shapes shot in one frame. Thanks so much, for your beautiful BWW photo.
I am glad you like the photo, Susan. Come to think about it, I should have asked the farmer about their display, whether they had a reason for placing those vegetables next to each other, or whether it was unplanned.
